Mark Della-Croce, Lore Link Product Lead, here. Spring is coming, and with it, Lore Link’s plans start heating up!
We’ll start with our Twitch channel, where we are changing things up. Last month we started focusing on general GMing topics rather than just looking at new systems. In Mike’s monthly stream where he typically covers planning for Pathfinder’s Quest for the Frozen Flame, he dug into tips for GMing a long-running campaign as some of his have spanned multiple years in run time.
In my first stream of the month, we discussed mistakes people make with their Big Bad Evil Gal/Guy and how to best plan one out in Lore Link. We used the interesting TTJRPG system Fabula Ultima to look at some cool mechanics to steal for use in other games (the Ultima Mechanics are great for giving your players a win while still getting to keep your cool hero).
After that, we looked at the hardest part of running a superhero game: Dealing with your players’ desire for cool cinematic combat a la the latest cinematic movie SFX extravaganza. You want a cool superhero fight, but how do you create and keep track of an environment that prevents your players from devolving into “I hit them with my biggest attack”? That’s a lot of moving parts, but, hey! That’s what Lore Link is here for! Create your big fight scene location, and link in all the cool things you want to use to inspire your players to chuck cars, swing lamposts, or blow someone through a building (without having to stop and check your notes for rules, damage, or other things to take you and your players out of the fight).
And of course, we always recommend stealing cool ideas for your games from other sources. We looked at Cities of Mist to borrow ideas for how to allow your players to add cinematics and stakes to your super-powered fights. Finally, we took a look at Marvel Ultimate Alliance in order to get inspiration for some great starting set pieces to kick off your game. If you missed any of that, you can check all of that out on our YouTube channel.
In March, we’re coming in like a lion; in particular, a British Lion. Mike Dowden is taking a break from Pathfinder and has started prepping for March’s big Lore Link Actual Play: Pendragon! This isn’t his first time streaming Pendragon content as he has previously done two streams walking through the Solo Quest adventure “The Adventure of the Sword in the Stone” from the Pendragon 6th Edition Starter Box.
Pendragon is a great high-fantasy, low-magic game that can tell some amazing stories spanning generations of your character. I’m really looking forward to being on the other side of the GM screen on March 28th, as we take on the adventure that Mike’s been planning. Make sure to follow our Twitch channel so you don’t miss when we go live! Also, if you’re planning to be at Who’s Yer Con next month, you may be able to catch The Sword Campaign live!
On the development side of things, the full Lore conversion project has entered the testing phase, and our QA team is hard at work to make sure your transition into this new version of Lore Link is as smooth as possible. Here’s one last preview of a new feature in this new Data Version of Lore Link: Named relationships!
Remember, this feature will be available to all our users (free and paid) in the coming months. If you don’t already have a free account, check out our Get Started page for information on how to sign up today!
I’ve got to get going, I think I hear Mike cackling about what he’s going to do to my poor Knight during this Pendragon Campaign. ‘Till next time, earn glory for your name and stay true to your passions!
