10. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use

With the recent widespread adoption of AI, and the potential for widespread harm to marginalized communities, and to freelancers and creators in the tabletop games industry, the team at Lore Link would like to be upfront about our use of AI and our expectations of vendors, creators, and partners.

  1. No generative AI for profit. The use of AI to produce content in established creative spaces actively harms creators already in those spaces by reducing their access to revenue. Worse, in most cases the AI is trained on content from the very creators its output is replacing. We’re opposed to the use of generative AI to create or promote a commercial product or service. We encourage everyone within the gaming industry to hire creative people and pay them fairly.

  2. AI use requires disclosure and consent. Because the use of AI can have environmental, ethical, and legal considerations, and because AI tools typically require access to personal data to function, we require disclosure any time AI is used to provide a service, and such services must be 100% opt-in.

  3. Avoid AI when a comparable alternative exists. While the exact social, environmental, and economic impact of AI is hotly debated and may not be fully known for years, it is extremely clear that newer AI models consume more energy and water resources than non-AI solutions. Because of this, we prefer non-AI solutions whenever such tools are available and viable.

Lore Link will not knowingly support, promote, or partner with any company, organization, or individual who does not adhere to this AI use policy.

In the interest of full disclosure, Lore Link currently uses AI in the following ways:

  • We use Descript for some of our video editing projects for marketing or training, where the subject of those videos includes the likeness and voices of our own team. We do not use the generative features such as artificial avatars or speech.

  • We sometimes use image editing tools from Canva including the Background Remover, Magic Grab, and Magic Eraser, but not generative features such as Background Generator, Magic Edit, or Magic Expand. These tools are used on our own images and photos for marketing purposes and not integrated into our product.

  • For our livestreams we use the Google Cloud Speech to Text API via the Closed Captioning OBS Plugin to produce captions. For videos we use YouTube auto-captions, from which we then edit the final caption result on produced videos. (We are not currently able to manually review all of the captions from our live stream content.)

All graphics and images used by Lore Link in our streams, videos, and marketing—and within the Lore Link product itself—are produced by our team, consultants, freelancers we hire, or are licensed for commercial use from image sharing services.
