We normally don’t post a new blog on holidays, but I didn’t want this Monday to pass without talking about one of our Indie Creator Streams from the end of February. In that stream, Michael was joined by Joe Jones-Vermillion of Abyssal Raven Games to talk about his game, The Wine Dark Sea.
The Wine Dark Sea is a sci-fi/horror RPG inspired by The Odyssey. Taken from the introduction: “You and your crewmates have translated from the superluminal into a place outside the known universe, a place known from whispered legend as the Wine Dark. Not a single known star within range of the ship’s sensors, distracted by vague and terror-stricken pleading from crewmates on the decks below, you shut down the comms. There must be a way to translate somewhere…anywhere…else. As of yet, your desperate searching and strategizing have yielded no results. You are stranded here - but you are not alone.” Over the course of an hour, Mike and Joe talked about the premise, the mechanics, and the process to put it all together. They also discussed the importance of Session Zero and how to prepare for a campaign that’s more “sandbox-style.”
The reason I wanted to make sure this post went out today, though, is because The Wine Dark Sea has been polished, and is now up on Gamefound! The crowdfunding campaign went live on the 6th, and it is a fantastic way to get this game into your collection.
We’d like to thank Joe once again for taking the time to talk with Mike! If you want to learn more about The Wine Dark Sea, you can find Joe on Bluesky, you can visit the Abyssal Raven Games website, and of COURSE you can go back the crowdfunding campaign! Please, check out the video, then go support the campaign and get your own copy of the game!
