We all know that the weeks leading up to the holiday season is prime time for horror games, right? That’s why we took the opportunity to have Mark and the Lore LInk Players sit with Justin Pierce of Ugli Games to take a look at his Horror Film Simulation, Reel Fear.
Reel Fear is a survival horror TTRPG ran by the “Director” as players take on the roles of actors in a horror film. It is a rules-lite game where the players try to fulfill their character’s Motivations while surviving the situations the Director throws at them. One cool tool to help them is the ability to use a Rewrite, which allows them to add to rolls, reroll dice, and even add dice to their roll. While discussing the game, Justin ran Lore Link Players Mark, Mike, and Twenty through a scenario as camp counselors in what felt like a B-Horror Film. Looking back at the game, Twenty gave me her thoughts. “It’s a lot of fun. It gives the players room to really choose how a character is built outside of the actual moment-to-moment play, allowing them to become fully-realized over time between each role. As someone who is choosy about what kinds of horror media I access, there was plenty of rum for humor inside the horror tropes, which made it fun for me. Can highly recommend!”
While the game was streamed on our Twitch channel on December 9th, 2025, the replay is available on our YouTube channel, or embedded in this post. If you’d like to know more about Reel Fear, and I KNOW you want to know more, you can find it on DriveThruRPG and itch.io and you can follow Justin and Ugli Games on Bluesky.
Justin, thank you so much for spending time with the team showing us Reel Fear! Folks, check it out!
